Learning Helix
The Innovations Learning Helix maps the roles of facilitators and students for any given activity. It is built on two axes: Content Focus and Engagement Structure. Together, they define four quadrants of the learning experience. Innovations activities will include a select order of components in each of the four quadrants over time forming a Learning Helix:
Structured Academic Practice: Engaging with rigorous content through guided instruction and demonstration.
Structured Artistic Application: Applying content knowledge and skills using artistic media within constraints.
Free Artistic Expression: Independently exploring, expressing, or blending content knowledge and skills through art.
Free Academic Exploration: Reinforcing and relating to content through real-world inquiry and exposure and by student driven artistic discovery and development.
This helix reinforces deep learning, creative synthesis, and real-world relevance, culminating in a final project that is academically grounded, artistically rich and relevant, and authentically student owned.
